Why CJS
Boston jobs are tight with aggressive schedules, live buildings and streets that have to reopen by morning. Here's how we keep them on track.
Storage, trucking, crane and rigging from one team. Equipment is delivered and staged at our yard, trucked in when the schedule calls for it and rigged into place by the same crew.
Dense sites, closed streets, tunnels underneath. We handle the lift plans, permits and coordination with agencies like MassDOT, Boston Transportation and Boston Police so the pick happens on the day it is supposed to.
We respond quickly with the crane you need, where and when you need it. Trailers and rigging gear move with the crane so the job stays on schedule.
Our customer portal gives you photos, dimensions and weights, storage locations and inbound BOLs for every piece we hold. Clear records, no guesswork.

Project spotlight
A 175,000 SF building repositioning with Wise Construction, wedged between the Seaport and the Financial District and adjacent to the I-93 tunnel. We warehoused pre-purchased mechanical and electrical equipment for just-in-time delivery, trucked it in, and executed more than 20 crane picks, coordinating with MassDOT, Boston Transportation and Boston Police the whole way.

Our story
In 2012, Chris Shaughnessy took a risk as a young entrepreneur and bought his first crane, a 35-ton boom truck. Coming from a family with over 100 years in the crane industry, he made a conscious decision to break away and build a company of his own, one focused on reliability, quality service and safety.
Today CJ Shaughnessy Crane runs a full crane, rigging, hauling and warehousing operation from four sites in Avon and Stoughton, all within a mile of each other and right off Route 24, and we still take on projects big and small across New England and beyond.

2012
CJ Shaughnessy Crane Service is founded with a single Manitex 35-ton boom truck.
2015
The first Liebherr, a 70-ton LTM 1060, joins the fleet. The shop moves to Braintree.
2016
Hauling starts with a Peterbilt, and a 120-ton LTM 1100-4.2 goes into service.
2018
Operations move to Bodwell Street in Avon.
2019
The 550-ton Liebherr LTM 1450 arrives, opening up a new class of heavy lifts.
2022
In November, the 770-ton Liebherr LTM 1650 arrives, our largest crane to date.
